In-Person Electronic Notarization (IPEN)

In-Person Electronic Notarization (IPEN) is completed face-to-face, but instead of signing a paper document, the document is signed and notarized electronically using a secure, approved platform.

Unlike Remote Online Notarization (RON), IPEN does not take place over an audio/video call. The signer and notary meet in person, and the notarization is completed on an electronic device.

How IPEN Works

  • The signer and notary meet in person
  • The document is reviewed and signed electronically
  • Identity is verified through a secure, approved platform
  • The notarization is completed digitally during the appointment

IPEN vs. Remote Online Notarization (RON)

  • IPEN: In-person meeting, electronic documents, no video session
  • RON: Completed entirely online using audio/video technology

Both methods use secure platforms and electronic notarization, but the key difference is whether the appointment is conducted in person or remotely.

Important Considerations

Before scheduling an IPEN appointment:

  • You must confirm that the receiving party will accept electronic notarizations
  • A stable internet connection is required to complete the notarization
  • Both parties must have access to a compatible electronic device

If needed, we can coordinate a meeting location that offers both privacy and reliable internet access, such as a local library or similar setting. Other locations may also be used, provided a secure and stable connection is available.
